BITS Tip: Having problems with your wireless keyboard or mouse?

Keyboard_keys.jpgWireless keyboards and mice can help clean up your desk by removing excess cords and cables, but sometimes office equipment can interfere with their wireless signals.  Just like a radio, these devices need to tune into a certain frequency to send and receive their signals.  If any other device is sending out signals on a similar frequency, your device may have trouble talking to your computer.  If your wireless keyboard or mouse is acting slow or unresponsive, here are a few simple things you can do to try to fix it:

  1. Try re-syncing the devices and the wireless receiver.  Press the button on the receiver, and then the button on the bottom of the keyboard, followed by the one on the mouse.
  2. If this doesn't work try replacing the batteries with new ones.
  3. Try moving your mouse or keyboard closer the wireless receiver.  They should be within six feet of each other and clear of any large metal objects which could interfere with the signal.

When possible, we recommend keeping it simple and using corded keyboards and mice, especially in dental and medical offices.  X-ray equipment in these types of offices will often interfere with wireless devices, but corded keyboards and mice continue to operate fine.  If you're still having issues with your wireless devices, give us a call to schedule a technician to take a look!
